Francesc "Cesc" Fābregas

Biography

Francesc Fābregas Soler (born May 4, 1987 in Arenys de Mar, Catalonia, Spain) is a brilliant Spanish Footballer.

He plays in central midfield for Arsenal FC in the English Premiership and also represents the Spanish national team.

Fābregas has been touted as one of the best of Spain's new generation of footballers and has now broken into the Spanish national team following the World Cup in Germany.

Fābregas is fluent in Catalan, French, Spanish and English. He is more commonly known as "Cesc" in his home country and indeed "Cesc" is the name displayed on his shirt when palying for his countrymen

Club & Country

Cesc started his footballing career at FC Barcelona, but moved to Arsenal FC in September 2003 aged 16 before he could break into the first-team at Camp Nou.

On 28th October 2003, aged 16 years and 177 days, Fābregas became the youngest ever player to feature in the Arsenal first team when he made his debut in the English League Cup against Rotherham United FC.

Fabregas made his Premiership debut in the 4-1 win at Everton FC on the opening day of the 2004/05 season and went on to start 24 matches for Arsenal that season (Arsenal finished runners-up).

He scored his first Premiership goal against Blackburn Rovers FC on 25 August and scored his first UEFA Champions League goal in December's victory against Rosenborg BK.

Spain

For his country, Fabregas was voted player of the tournament at the 2003 FIFA Under-17 World Championship where he also won the Golden Boot for his six goals helping Spain reach the final.

The following year, he famously scored a vital 89th-minute goal against England in the 2004 UEFA Under-17 European Championship; Spain again reaching the final.

On Wednesday, 14 June 2006, Cesc Fabregas, aged 19 years and 41 days, became Spain's youngest ever World Cup player, when he came on for Luis Garcia after 77 minutes in the 4-0 victory over Ukraine.

Cesc was nominated for the Gillette Young Player of the World Cup 2006, but lost out to 21-year-old German striker Lukas Podolski. However, earlier this year on 19 January 2007, he was named in the 2006 UEFA Team of the Year, one of three Premiership players to be selected, (Steven Gerrard and Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry being the other two).

Fābregas was a runaway winner of the Golden Boy award on 2 December 2006, presented by Italian paper TuttoSport, based on a poll of leading writers across Europe.

2007

Fābregas won the Premiership Player of the Month award for January and captained Arsenal for the first time during the League Cup Final on February 25 (after Kolo Toure was sent off in extra time). He was nominated for both PFA Player Of The Year and PFA Young Player Of The Year but both awards eventually went to Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo.

Fābregas in Action

2008

The 2007/08 season saw Fābregas turning from goal creator to goal scorer hitting the back of the net 11 times in his first 16 games boosting Arsenal's ultimately unsuccessful title bid.

Fābregas was awarded the PFA Player of the Year and named in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2007/2008 season.

Although trophyless, Euro 2008 presents an opportunity for Cesc to shine as Spain are (once again) one of the tournament favourites and are tipped to do well.
